How to book your road test, honestly
We cannot book your road test and neither can anyone else selling that service. You book it yourself at drivetest.ca or 1-888-570-6110. What follows is how the process actually works, so the date you get is one you can keep.
Nobody can book your road test for you
Read this before you pay anyone to book a test for you
The Ministry of Transportation publicly cautions against third-party road-test booking sites and resellers. We have no arrangement with DriveTest, we cannot move you up the queue, and any driving school claiming otherwise is describing something that does not exist for passenger road tests.
What you need before you can book
Booking fails most often because something upstream is not finished. Work through this first.
- Your licence must be reinstated. You cannot book a road test against a suspended licence. Reinstatement means the suspension has ended, the $281.00 reinstatement fee is paid and any other outstanding fines or prohibitions are cleared.
- You must actually need a road test. If your licence was invalid for under three years it is an eye test and nothing more. Licence reinstatement in Ontario sets out which band you are in.
- Knowledge and eye tests come first if your licence was invalid three years or more. The first road test is bookable once those are passed; the second once the first is passed.
- Know your conditions. If your licence carries an “I”, the test vehicle must have an interlock fitted. Sort the car out before you commit to a date.
Booking it
- Go to drivetest.ca or call 1-888-570-6110. Those are the only channels. Have your licence number and a payment method to hand.
- Choose the centre deliberately. Ottawa has two and they are not equivalent. Canotek runs G2 and G road tests only. Walkley runs every class and is the only Ottawa centre with Saturday appointments.
- Book as far ahead as you can. The appointment is the scarce thing in this process, not the car. Take the earliest date you can genuinely attend.
- Then send us the date. Date, centre and class of test. We confirm whether the car and an instructor are free and quote it in writing, usually the same day.

How to lose the date you just booked
DriveTest can declare a road test out of order before it starts. You lose 50% of the fee, the other 50% stays as a credit on your record, and you go back into the queue.
Device fitted, no “I” on licence
It works the other way too. The vehicle and the conditions printed on your licence have to match each other exactly.
The device won’t take a sample
If the unit faults at the start or during a rolling retest, DriveTest reschedules free of charge. If you can’t give a clean sample, the forfeit stands.

Questions
About booking specifically
Can a driving school book my road test for me?
Not a passenger road test. DriveTest publishes one school-privileged booking arrangement and it is for commercial driver training schools doing back-to-back block bookings. There is no equivalent for Class G or G2. Anyone offering to book your G2 for you is not describing a real arrangement.
How far ahead should I book?
As far as you reasonably can. Waits vary by centre and season, and the appointment is the bottleneck in this whole process. Take the earliest date you can genuinely attend, then arrange the car around it.
Can I change the date after I have booked with you?
Yes, tell us as soon as you know. If DriveTest cancels, we rebook you at no charge — their cancellation is not your problem.
Which centre has the shorter wait?
It moves constantly and we will not guess at it. The booking system shows real availability at both; check Walkley and Canotek side by side before you commit. Remember Canotek does G2 and G only.
