An 8-hour workshop or a 16-hour one. What puts you in each stream, how much longer treatment takes, and why you cannot simply pick the shorter option.

Back on Track, without the guesswork
Every driver reinstating after an impaired conviction goes through this, and the part that surprises people is not the workshop. It is the six-month gap afterwards.
Back on Track and Ontario’s remedial measures: the fee everyone gets wrong
It is on competitor pages, law-firm blogs and forum posts across Ontario, and it is out of date. The current cost is $894 after an impaired driving conviction and $344 after an administrative suspension, verified against remedial.net on 6 September 2026.
If a page still quotes $634, it has not been checked in a long time. That tells you something about the rest of what is on it.
Why it takes up to eleven months
Not bureaucracy — arithmetic. The six-month Follow-Up cannot take place earlier than six months after your workshop. The workshop cannot happen until the assessment is done and a place comes free. remedial.net says providers are often booking one to three months in advance, and that requests for earlier dates cannot be accommodated.
Chain those together and eleven months is a realistic figure rather than a pessimistic one.
Register seven days after court, not before
remedial.net says this three separate times, which suggests they are tired of explaining it. Your record has to appear in the system first. Registering early does not work and does not get you an earlier date.
Administrative suspensions carry hard deadlines instead, measured from the start of the suspension: 120 days for the Education workshop, 180 for Treatment.
The confusion that costs the most time
remedial.net states plainly that Back on Track cannot be used for the purposes of completing a Substance Use Assessment form. They are two separate requirements from two separate places. Back on Track gets your licence back. The Substance Use Assessment form is what MTO mails you before your interlock removal date, to be completed by a physician, specialist or nurse practitioner.
Finishing one does nothing whatsoever for the other, and people lose months discovering that.

Can I pay for an earlier workshop date?
No. remedial.net states that requests for earlier course dates cannot be accommodated. Anyone offering to move you up the queue is not able to do it.
Stream A only needs the assessment. Is that the whole programme?
Only the assessment has to be done within your suspension period. You still have to complete the workshop and the six-month follow-up afterwards. Deferred, not waived.
