Which parts apply to you

Drivers in the administrative stream do not take the assessment and do not take the follow-up, which is why their timeline is measured in weeks rather than most of a year.

How long it takes, and why the follow-up sets the floor

remedial.net gives two figures: up to 90 days for an administrative suspension and up to 11 months for an impaired driving conviction.

The eleven months is not bureaucracy. The six-month Follow-Up cannot take place earlier than six months after your workshop, and the workshop cannot happen until the assessment is done and a place is available. Add a booking queue at each stage and eleven months is a realistic figure, not a pessimistic one.

Register seven days after your conviction or suspension

remedial.net repeats this three separate times, which suggests they are tired of explaining it: register a week after you have been to court and received a conviction, not before. The system needs your record to appear first.

Administrative suspensions carry hard deadlines from the start of the suspension period: 120 days to complete the Education workshop, 180 days to complete the Treatment workshop.

The Stream A and B assessment-only rule

If you are a first-time offender who qualifies for a reduced suspension, remedial.net says you need only complete the Assessment part within your suspension period of three or six months — but you must go on to complete the Education or Treatment workshop and the Follow-Up afterwards.

Deferred, not waived. People finish the assessment, get reinstated, and assume they are done. Reduced suspension Stream A, Stream B and Stream D sets out what each one still owes.

Back on Track is not a Substance Use Assessment

This is the confusion that costs people the most time. remedial.net states plainly that Back on Track is not a treatment program and cannot be used for the purposes of completing a Substance Use Assessment form.

They are two different requirements from two different places. Back on Track is the remedial measures programme required to get your licence back. The Substance Use Assessment form is what MTO mails you around six months before your interlock removal date, to be completed by a physician, specialist or nurse practitioner and returned to Driver Medical Review. Finishing one does nothing for the other. How the “I” condition comes off an Ontario licence is a separate process again.

What happens if you fail or do not attend

You re-register, pay the full fee again, and start over. remedial.net puts the consequence in plain terms: this could result in a delay of eight months or more in reinstating your driver’s licence.

Attendance rules are the usual ones and they are enforced: arrive on time, stay for the whole session, and attend sober. A workshop you are sent home from is a workshop you pay for twice.
